INDIANAPOLIS — Jeff Burton didn’t mince words when asked about the state of Richard Childress Racing.

“It’s a little bit of chaos at the moment, there’s no question about it,” Burton said Friday. “I think everybody will admit to that.”

None of the four RCR Cup drivers — Burton, Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer or Casey Mears — is among the top 12 of the Sprint Cup standings, which would allow them to compete for the series championship.

“We haven’t had the results we need to have. Whenever you don’t get the results, the pressure gets turned up and that’s the way it is right now,” said Burton, who is 17th in points.

“There is a huge effort to do things differently and change things. Through that it creates a great deal of problems—people working more hours than they’ve ever worked, people asking a whole lot more out of everybody.”

Last week, reports surfaced that Harvick had asked out of his final year of his contract, but RCR released a statement saying Harvick and his sponsor would remain with the team in 2010.

Bowyer is the highest RCR driver in points (15th). Mears is 22nd and Harvick 25th. None has a win this season.

“It’s not going to change overnight, so you have everyone working harder, but the results aren’t changing quickly. It’s hard,” Burton said. “When you get behind, everything gets harder.

“We are in a hole, there’s no question about it. We have to dig ourselves out of it. I think we can.”

Kyle Busch wants to be ’better person’

Kyle Busch said he needs to make some changes in how he deals with tough days at the track, particularly in light of his performance two weeks ago at Chicagoland, where he finished 33rd and was frustrated.

Busch called the race “a huge downside to our season” and said much of the problems during the race could be attributed to him.

“I need to become a better person in being able to pull our team together and lead these guys and ultimately, lead them back into the Chase,” he said. “That was a bad week.”

Busch has three wins this season and is 10th in points but only 13 points inside what would be the 12-driver Chase field.

“It’s been a frustrating season and other drivers would look at it and love to have this season,” Busch said. “We want to be up front where Jimmie (Johnson) is and Tony (Stewart) is, Jeff (Gordon), Kurt (Busch) and all those guys.”

Hamlin opening club in Charlotte

Driver Denny Hamlin has joined with a group of investors who plan to open a franchise of the popular New York club/restaurant, Butter, in Charlotte.

The restaurant features booming music and a New American menu, extensive wine list and specialty cocktails.

“Something I always enjoy doing is going out, having a good time and getting some good food,” Hamlin said. “We just took it upon ourselves to start a partnership and we have a couple of other good investors, a good group.”

The restaurant will be near the Uptown Amphitheater at the Music Factory on Hamilton Street.
