Kayla Nagunst, Rainier cross country
The senior running star won the girls competition at the Oregon District 1 Cross Country Championships at the Tualatin Hills Recreation Center. Nagunst completed the 5000-meter course in 19:20 to earn first-team all-district honors and qualified for the Class 3A State Championships in Eugene.
Ethan Oomittuk, Kalama football
The Chinooks’ sophomore quarterback celebrated his 16th birthday with four touchdown passes, running for a touchdown and a pair of two-point conversions in a 41-40 victory over La Center. His 54-yard scoring toss to Steven Spaude with a minute left, followed by the two-point conversion to cap Kalama’s win.
Dani Eggleston, R.A. Long cross country
The sophomore standout claimed RAL’s first individual district championship in 28 years when she completed the 5,000-meter course in 20:51 at the District 4 Class 2A Cross Country Championships at The Evergreen State College. Eggleston also helped the Lumberjills claim second place in the team competition.
