YAKIMA — Castle Rock can still earn a trophy, but the Rockets won’t get a crack at the title — or the team that denied them a championship in 2008.

Cascade of Leavenworth came from behind to knock off Castle Rock 25-22, 20-25, 9-25, 25-22, 15-13 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A state volleyball tournament at the Yakima SunDome here Thursday.

Cascade advanced to the semifinals, where it will take on top-ranked, defending champion King’s, which beat the Rockets in the 2008 state title match.

Castle Rock (17-2) dropped into the consolation bracket and takes on Lynden Christian at noon Friday. The winner of that match will play for fourth and seventh place at 6:30 p.m.

The Rockets won their tournament opener against Connell 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 on Thursday.

Tierney Uhlenkott had 11 kills, six blocks, two digs and three aces to pace CR in that match. Maddi Seidl added 22 assists, two blocks, two digs and two aces, Megan Moore had eight digs and three aces, and Ashley Moore had six aces and four digs.

“They were anxious to get out and play, and they came out on fire,” Rockets coach Jeana Bays said of the Connell match. “We sloughed off a little in second game, but blasted off in third game to take the match.”

Details from Castle Rocks’ quarterfinal loss were not reported before deadline on Thursday.
