Washougal pulled off an early-season stunner at the Longview Country Club on Wednesday. Led by medalist Beau Scott, the Panthers beat Mark Morris by seven strokes, 218-225, in a Greater St. Helens 2A League golf match.

Scott fired a 35 to pace Washougal.

For the Monarchs (2-1 in league), Trevor Scott was five shots off the lead with a 40. Lexis Lee carded a 44, Alex Wilson and Drew Zandy each shot a 45, and Ian Mackey posted a 51.

Mark Morris takes on Ridgefield at Tri-Mountain Golf Course on Thursday.

CROSS COUNTRY

Siltala paces Tigers

SILVERTON, Ore. — Adam Siltala placed third overall for the Clatskanie boys cross country team at the Silver Falls Oktoberfest meet at Silver Falls State Park here Wednesday.

Siltala finished the course in 20:43. Michael Siltala also had a strong race for the Tigers boys, placing 13th in 21:44. Also, Shawn Murray was 47th in 23:31 and Cody Sloderbeck 61st in 24:04.

For the Clatskanie girls, Matice Dameron finished 13th in 26:59. Erin Akin (35th, 29:20), Chelsea Backlin (38th, 30:09), Tiffany Ryan (44th, 30:34) and Kaytianne McArthur (50th, 30:46) also ran well.

No team scores were reported.

VOLLEYBALL

Wildcats sweep Ilwaco

ILWACO — Ilwaco dropped to 0-3 overall following a 25-8, 25-15, 25-11 setback to La Center in SWW 1A Trico Division volleyball on Tuesday.

Marin McDonnell led Ilwaco with five kills and five digs, Josie Wright dished five assists, and Alexa Wirkkala had three kills and two aces.

Ilwaco visits Warrenton Saturday.

Rockets rout Toledo

CASTLE ROCK — Castle Rock made quick, ruthless work of Toledo here Wednesday in a nonleague volleyball showdown.

The Rockets "got off to a strong start and ran with it," CR coach Jeana Bayes said.

The match scores — 25-3, 25-16, 25-9 — bore Bayes out.

Tierney Uhlenkott had nine kills, five aces and two stuff blocks for the undefeated Rockets. Maddi Seidl added 21 assists, and Megan Moore was a serving standout with 18 points. Moore also had four digs.

The Rockets visit Astoria on Wednesday.

Golf

Kelso 268, R.A. Long 277 — Kelso’s Tyler McNeil shot a 48 to earn medalist honors. For RAL, Erik Chamberlain, T.J. Jones and Rauson Fine each carded a 55.

Volleyball

Castle Rock def. Toledo 25-10, 25-14, 15-6 — Jaycee Boultinghouse had two assists, Carli Johnson three kills and Tarin Miller four kills for the winners.
