VANCOUVER — Three Rivers Christian won all four of its matches as the Eagles defended their title at the Terrier Invitational hosted by Washington School for the Deaf on Saturday.

"Some of the games clicked and we played like we should, and other times we had to fight a lot harder," TRC coach Jaymie Cox said. "It was fun to defend our title."

During their run to the title, the Eagles beat Vancouver Christian (25-22, 15-25, 18-16), Oregon State Deaf (25-7, 25-22), Seton Catholic in the semifinals (25-21, 25-10), and Kings Way Christian (25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11) in the championship match.

Standouts for the Eagles include Myriah Dombrowsky (28 kills,

59 assists, seven aces, 18 digs), Catherine Maldonado (23 kills, seven aces, 24 digs), Mariah Morrison (12 kills, six aces), Emily Claunch (18 kills), Keana Stout (38 digs) and Nikki Barnwell (21 kills, nine aces, 16 digs).

MM fifth at Capital Invite

OLYMPIA — Danielle Gilchrist picked up All-Tournament honors in leading Mark Morris to a fifth-place finish in the Capital City

Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday.

In pool play, MM fell to Class 4A Olympia (25-19, 25-19) but bounced back to beat 4A Garfield (25-3, 25-22) and 3A Capital (25-20, 25-12). In the Monarchs’ first game against Garfield, Jill Isaacson served 17 straight points.

MM opened bracket play with a loss to 2A Selah (25-15, 25-8), beat 2A Tumwater (25-19, 12-25, 15-13) and was eliminated by 4A Puyallup (25-15, 17-25, 15-12).

Gilchrist served 34 points with seven aces, made 15 digs, 53 assists and eight kills, Isaacson served 47 points with 14 aces and had 27 digs, and Shantelle Savage served 23 points with 10 kills and made 20 digs and 19 kills. Alesha Schulz served 22 points with eight aces and had 31 digs and 18 kills; McKinzi Williams made 16 kills; and Lindsay Cappa chipped in 13 points and 10 digs.

CROSS COUNTRY

Eggleston, Richards lead RAL

PORTLAND — R.A. Long runners Dani Eggleston and Nathan Richards grabbed top-5 finishes in their respective races in the 17-team Warner Pacific Open cross country meet held at Westmoreland Park on Saturday.

Eggleston placed second in the girls’

5,000-meter race in 20:04, followed by teammates Allison Schneider (16th, 21:51.44), Jessica Johanson (18th, 22:06.26), Leah Ahrens (51st, 24:46.92), Rachael Washington (53rd, 24:50.53).

In the boys’ race, Richards grabbed fourth place in 17:14, followed by teammates Ray Nugent (29th, 18:31), Kyle Estes (31st, 18:33), Brian Jackson (32nd, 18:33) and Nolan Aberle (38th, 18:57).

Clatskanie’s Siltala shines

PORTLAND — Clatskanie runner Michael Siltala grabbed a 13th-place finish in the boys 5,000-meter run during competition in the Concordia/Puma Cross Country Classic held at Fernhill Park on Saturday.

More than 70 prep schools from Washington, Oregon, California and Alaska took part in the competition.

Siltala finished the race in 17:12, followed by teammates Shawn Murry (168th, 19:41), Cody Sloderbeck (181st, 19:58), Gary Points (189th, 20:06) and Danny Somes (191st, 20:08).

Clatskanie’s Matrice Dameron placed 86th in the girls’ run in 22:50, followed by Tiffany Ryan (89th, 22:52), Kaytianne McArthur (135th, 24:17), Chelsea Backlin (165th, 25:21) and Erin Akin (166th, 25:22).

Rainier wins Red Ribbon

RAINIER — Buddy Pickering and Kaylee Kotkins won the boys’ and girls’ races, respectively, during the annual Red Ribbon Run hosted by the Columbians on Saturday.

Rainier tallied 20 points to win the boys’ race, led by Pickering in 19 minutes and 42seconds. Dylan McFadden grabbed second place in 19:46, Trent Chesebro was third in 20:00, Sean Johnson sixth in 20:23, and Tyson Griffith eighth in 21:12.

The Columbians placed second in the girls race with 50 points, led by Kotkins in 20:42 and Kayla Nagunst in second in 21:08. Also placing for Rainier were Kacie Engstrom (11th, 25:51), Heather Anthony (17th, 27:08) and Hayley Stenke (19th, 27:24).

SWIMMING

Miller leads MM to 4th

Janae Miller won an event and was in the top 5 in three others as Mark Morris grabbed fourth place in the 17-team Mark Morris Invitational at Dick Mealy Memorial Pool Saturday.

Aberdeen won the team title with 417 points, followed by Union with 391, Skyview 343 and Mark Morris 331.

Miller won the 100 freestyle (57.83), was third in the 50 freestyle (26.0), teamed with Kelly Hill, Sarah Naglich, Brittany Jewett to place fourth in the 200 freestyle relay (1:51.95), and joined Abigail Groffmann, Jewett and Tasha Shero to finish fourth in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:10.93.

Shero also finished fifth in the 100 breaststroke (1:20.3), and joined Groffmann, Hill and Naglich on the eighth-place 200 freestyle relay in 2:09.72.

TENNIS

MM, RAL on to district

Tyler VonDracek and Nick Schoen of R.A. Long claimed the doubles title, and Jeff Koss of Mark Morris won the singles crown at the Class 2A subdistrict tennis tournament held at the Mint Valley Racquet Complex on Saturday.

The top three doubles pairings and top three singles advance to the District 4 Class 2A Tennis Championships Friday and Saturday at the Bally’s Racquet Center in Olympia.

VonDracek-Schoen topped MM’s Evan Jones and Kelly Gilchrist 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 in the finals, and Jones-Gilchrist lost to a Washougal pairing 6-0, 6-0 for second and third places.

In consolation play, RAL’s Levi Welch and Josh Johnson were eliminated by Ryan Dawkins and Jared Houten of MM 6-0, 6-3, and the Dawkins-Houten pairing was later eliminated by the Washougal duo 7-5, 6-1.

In singles, Koss topped RAL’s Jonathan Haukaas in the finals 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. In the consolation bracket, MM’s Tyler Stewart eliminated Jeffrey Ashford of RAL 6-0, 6-2, and Stewart knocked off a Washougal player 6-3, 6-3 for third place.
