Kayla Nagunst, Rainier cross country
The Columbians’ super-senior closed out her prep cross country career by finishing second in the Oregon Class 3A state meet. Nagunst completed the 5,000-meter race in 20:08, qualifying her to compete in the Nike Border Clash on Nov. 22 on the Nike World Campus in Beaverton.
Tierney Uhlenkott, Castle Rock volleyball
The freshman sensation hammered 14 kills, and had five stuff blocks, four digs and eight service points in the District 4 Class 1A Volleyball Tournament title game win over Montesano. She also helped the Rockets with 17 kills and five stuff blocks in a 3-0 sweep of Rainier, Wash. in the tournament’s opening round.
D.J. Herbert, Toledo football
Toledo’s senior running back was a huge reason for the Indians’ 14-6 victory over Castle Rock in the SWW 1A Trico/Evergreen football crossover game. He carried the ball 14 times for 62 yards, and scored on a 10-yard run and caught a 42-yard TD pass in the second quarter. On defense, he intercepted a CR pass in the end zone to stop a Rockets’ scoring drive.
