TOUTLE — Castle Rock’s middle blockers dominated the net, and the Rockets’ terrific freshman trio also made a big impact in a 25-14, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19 victory over rival Toutle Lake here Wednesday in nonleague volleyball action.
Tierney Uhlenkott had 18 kills, nine stuff blocks and four aces, and fellow middle blocker Heather Beck added 14 kills and five stuff blocks for Castle Rock (2-0).
Uhlenkott is a freshman, as are Macee Utecht (nine kills, five aces, 13 digs) and Maddi Seidl (41 assists, five aces).
"Although we have a young team, our attitude and determination are unstoppable," said CR coach Jeana Bayes. "We have lots of spunk and energy."
Charlie Hamilton and Justice Allegar added eight kills apiece for the winners.
For Toutle Lake (1-1), Caitlin Perrin had 10 kills and two aces. Tiffany Wend had four kills, served 100 percent and had an ace, Jamie Wall had three kills and two aces, Maddie Timm had two kills, Hayley Gorton served 100 percent and dished five assists, Abby Gorton handed out 14 assists, and Brandi Malakoff was a defensive standout.
Castle Rock hosts Toledo next Wednesday.
Eagles perfect at jamboree
VANCOUVER — Three Rivers Christian won all five of its games at the Columbia Valley 1B League volleyball jamboree at Club Green Meadows here Wednesday.
The Eagles beat Seton Catholic 25-13, Columbia Adventist 25-10, Washington State School for the Deaf 25-16, King’s Way 25-10, and Vancouver Christian 25-16.
Myriah Dombrowsky had 32 assists, Nikki Barnwell served 14 aces, Catherine Maldonado had 25 digs, and Mariah Morrison smacked 12 kills for TRC.
The Eagles visit White Pass/Morton on Thursday.
SOCCER
Bulldogs bite Kalama
KALAMA — Kalama tightened up its defense in the second half and limited the damage in a 7-0 loss to Montesano here Wednesday in a nonleague girls soccer match.
The visitors put 23 shots on goal in the first half and built a 5-0 lead. But Kalama "made some good changes and held (its) own" after halftime, said Chinooks coach Vern Hamby.
"We only allowed seven shots in the second half," he added. "We tightened our whole game up.
Jill Campbell was a defensive standout for Kalama (1-1).
The Chinooks host Woodland next Tuesday.

Monarchs top Hawks
Trevor Scott shot a 1-over-par 37 to claim medalist honors and spearhead Mark Morris’ 208-219 victory over Hockinson in a Greater St. Helens 2A League golf match at Longview Country Club on Wednesday.
The match was the season opener for the Monarchs (1-0).
Ian Mackey carded a 39, Lexis Lee a 42, Alex Wilson a 43, and Fritz Hanseler a 47 for the winners.
Mark Morris takes on Woodland at Lewis River Golf Course on Thursday.
TENNIS
MM dominates Evergreen
VANCOUVER — Mark Morris dropped a total of five games — while winning 60 — in an impressive sweep of Evergreen here Wednesday in a nonleague boys tennis match.
The "closest" match came at second doubles, where Jared Houten and Chris London breezed 6-2, 6-0 for the Monarchs (1-0).
Jeff Koss rolled 6-0, 6-1 at first singles, and Evan Jones swept to a 6-0, 6-0 win at second singles.
Kelly Gilchrist and Ryan Dawkins (first doubles) and Ethan Winters and Tyler Stewart (third doubles) took care of their respective matches 6-1, 6-0.

Football
R.A. Long 6, Fort Vancouver 6 — Eric Rosellini’s 15-yard pass to Trey Solon was the Jacks’ lone touchdown. Conner Gragg passed for 85 yards, Jimmy Roundtree rushed for 62 and Solon hauled in three catches for 63 yards for RAL. Defensive standouts were D.J. Smith and Erik Cottrell (seven tackles each), and Solon, Rosellini and Chandler Blanks (fumble recoveries).

Castle Rock def. Toutle Lake 22-25, 25-11, 25-22 — Tarin Miller had six kills, Bailey Mitchell had five kills and Maddi Klingberg added 16 assists for CR. Mackenzie Flatz served well for TL.

Mark Morris 2, Evergreen 1 — For MM, doubles winners were Grant Avolon and Krammer Rapp (8-2) and Nick Wells and Patrick Domreis (8-0).
