YAKIMA — After dropping its semifinal game to tournament host Yakima, the Kalama 13-14 All-Stars were unable to bounce back as they fell to Cascade of Vancouver 9-7 to take third place in the Junior State Baseball Championships.

“I didn’t know how the team was going to respond after the semifinal loss,” Kalama coach Darren Clark said. “We came out flat and didn’t have the attitude we had earlier in the week.”

Cascade’s pitcher threw a number of off-speed pitches that kept the Kalama hitters off balance.

“We couldn’t adjust, and we hit a lot of balls hard but right at them,” Clark said. “I have to tip my hat to these kids. Give them a day or two, and they’ll realize what an accomplishment this is. We battled the heat and a week in a motel, and finished in third place.”
