Ex-Interlake coach Cross joins WSU football staff
Sheldon Cross, who guided Interlake to the Class 2A state playoffs where they fell to Mark Morris in the opening round, has resigned to become a paid offensive graduate assistant at Washington State University.
And it wasn’t the Saints’ 35-21 loss to the Monarchs that led him to the decision to leave high school football. He made the choice to join the WSU staff one day after the setback.
"If I didn’t believe that Coach (Paul) Wulff and his staff were going to turn it around, I wouldn’t have done this," Cross told Washingtonstate.scout.com. "You can see it. I’m sure there are some things the fans can’t see right now, but it’s there. You can see it in the players they’ve brought in, you can see it in the practices. You can see it in that the players understand the plan."
Cross, who was named the Kingco 3A/2A Coach of the Year, was at Interlake four years, including three as head coach. In the past two seasons, he led the Saints to records of 6-5 and 8-4 after replacing Luke Huard, now a graduate assistant at the University of Washington.
