MONTESANO — Toutle Lake had little trouble rolling to its sixth consecutive Southwest 2B District volleyball title following victories over Napavine, Wahkiakum and Adna on Saturday.

The district triumph moved the fifth-ranked Ducks into the Class 2B state tournament, which begins Friday at the Yakima SunDome. Toutle takes on Reardan at 2 p.m. in its opener, and will face the winner of the Darrington-Kittitas match in Saturday morning’s quarterfinals if it defeats Reardan.

At district, TL swept Napavine 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 in the opening round, beat Wahkiakum 25-11, 25-23, 22-25, 25-17 in the semifinals, and topped Adna 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 in the title match.

Caitlin Perrin led TL with 33 kills for the tourney, Tiffany Wend added 27, and Peyton Hoff chipped in 17 and seven blocks. Hayley Gorton dished 51 assists and served 65-of-65 with nine aces, and Abby Gorton chipped in 37 assists and five aces.

Wahkiakum was eliminated one match prior to the contest for third and fourth places. The Mules opened with a victory over South Bend, fell to Toutle Lake in the semifinals, and lost to Mossyrock in a consolation match. No other match scores from Wahkiakum were reported.

Class 1B

In Saturday’s Southwest 1B District tournament in Matlock, Wash., Three Rivers Christian earned its second consecutive trip to the Class 1B state volleyball tourney after the Eagles topped Lake Quinault and King’s Way Christian to win the title at Mary M. Knight High School.

TRC (14-4) knocked off Lake Quinault 25-19, 25-21, 13-25, 25-20 in the semifinals, and avenged an earlier season loss to King’s Way with a 23-25, 25-17, 18-25, 25-16, 15-7 triumph in the title match.

The Eagles meet Klickitat at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the opening round of the Class 1B state tourney at the Yakima SunDome.

“This was a revenge match for us because we lost to King’s Way Christian on Oct. 29 for the top seed into the district tournament,” TRC coach Jaymie Cox said. “We came out really excited and played with a lot of energy.”

The Eagles tallied 42 kills, 14 blocks and served 19 aces against King’s Way. Nikki Barnwell had 12 kills and three aces, Catherine Maldonado had 10 kills, three aces and seven digs, Myriah Dombrowsky made 28 assists, served nine aces and had six digs, and Mariah Morrison chipped in nine kills.

“We came out fast, strong and confident in the Lake Quinault match,” Cox said. “We wavered a bit midway through, but we finished strong.”

Barnwell had 10 kills, Morrison added nine and four digs, and Dombrowsky had seven kills, 24 assists and 10 digs. Lane Backstrom made five kills, and Emily Claunch had four kills and seven digs.
