In the last home game of her career, with a chance to clinch the Greater St. Helens 2A League championship, R.A. Long senior Baily Harris said goodbye in style.
The University of Washington-bound right-hander pitched a six-inning perfect game against Hockinson, helping the Lumberjills win 10-0 and wrap up the league crown.
Harris did not allow a baserunner. Of the 18 outs she recorded, 16 came on strikeouts.
R.A. Long scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-0 lead and added another in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the mercy-rule win.
Kaylie Dobbins caught the perfect game and was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, and Sadie Peterson was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Kiana Mawae (two runs scored), Kailah McGill (RBI), Tara Haas (double) and Christina Driscoll (RBI) each added a hit for the winners (12-1 league).
R.A. Long visits Washougal for a doubleheader on Wednesday that will wrap up the regular season. The Jills open the Southwest 2A District playoffs on May 21 at Fort Borst Park in Centralia against the No. 4 team from the Evergreen Conference.
On Saturday, Harris crafted a one-hitter and struck out 12 as R.A. Long shut out Mark Morris 7-0 in a GSHL 2A game at MM.
RAL was led offensively by Petersen (two hits, two runs), Mawae (two hits, two RBIs), Averie Bogner (three-run double), Harris (two hits including a double) and Haas (two hits, RBI).
Rockets romp against White Salmon
CASTLE ROCK — Castle Rock made quick, brutal work of White Salmon here Monday, sweeping the Bruins 17-2 and 15-0 in an SWW 1A Trico Division fastpitch doubleheader.
Both games ended via the 10-run mercy rule. Game 1 lasted three innings and Game 2 lasted four.
Kayleigh Klingberg went 3-for-3 with a three-run home run, three runs scored and five RBIs to pace the Rockets (17-1, 14-0 league) in the first game. Samantha Moore was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI, and Maddie Klingberg was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Brittany Keeling earned the win on the mound.
In Game 2, Danielle Nevers went the distance, allowing one hit with seven strikeouts.
Kayleigh Klingberg was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a double, triple and an RBI, and Maddie Klingberg was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Lacey Seidl was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Taviah’ Jenkins was 2-for-2 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Castle Rock visits White Salmon on Friday.
Spudders shock Woodland
RIDGEFIELD — Ridgefield rallied for all of its runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Woodland 4-3 here Monday in a Greater St. Helens 2A League fastpitch thriller.
The Beavers (9-4 league) had already clinched second place in the GSHL 2A, which took some of the sting out of Monday’s dramatic setback.
Woodland starter Emily Holt went the distance and absorbed the hard-luck loss. She had nine strikeouts and only two of the runs she allowed were earned.
An error in the seventh led to two unearned runs.
Holt was 2-for-4, and Cami Pearson added a triple and an RBI for Woodland, which hosts Washougal on Tuesday.
Columbians breeze again
RAINIER — Mollee Schwegler’s two-run, walk-off home run in the fifth inning ended it via the 10-run mercy rule as Rainier belted Warrenton 13-2 in a Lewis and Clark 3A League fastpitch game Monday.
Alyssa Sutfin pitched the win with three strikeouts and also finished 3-for-3 at the plate. Heather Crape was scheduled to pitch but was ill, so Sutfin stepped in.
"She did a great job on short notice," Rainier coach Pat White said.
Zaschia Walker (3-for-4, double), Raeanne Hanks (4-for-4, double), Mollee Schwegler (3-for-4) and Amanda Schwegler (double) were hitting standouts for the Columbians (13-4, 8-0 league).
Freshman Haley Crape was a defensive standout.
Rainier travels to Clatskanie for a twinbill Tuesday.
Lassies level Evergreen
Mackenzie Martin, the second batter for Kelso in the first inning, drove in pinch-runner Allyson Dillehay with a double for an early lead and the Lassies never looked back, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Evergreen in Greater St. Helens 4A League fastpitch action Monday at Lassie Beach.
Kelli Snyder singled for the Lassies in the opening frame and finished 2-for-3. Jenna DeRosier (2-for-4, double), Mackenzie Southard (2-for-3, three RBIs), Brittany Sanders (1-for-3) and Tailer Snow (1-for-2, three RBIs) were Kelso’s hitting standouts.
Snow drove in two runs with a double in the sixth inning.
DeRosier (eight strikeouts, one hit allowed) pitched the first four innings for the Lassies (14-3, 6-1 league) and Crystal Nyman (six strikeouts, one run allowed) tossed the final three.
Defensive stars for Kelso were Snyder, who threw out a base stealer behind the plate, and right fielder Madeline Zbaeren.
The Lassies have continue their busy week today at home against Battle Ground. They host Heritage on Wednesday and finish the regular season at Mountain View on Thursday.
Panthers top Monarchs
WASHOUGAL — Washougal held off Mark Morris 8-5 here Monday in a Greater St. Helens 2A League fastpitch game.
Meaghan House was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Monarch (3-11 league).
Jessica Johnston added a pair of RBIs.
BASEBALL
Bruins end Toledo’s season
WHITE SALMON — White Salmon plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bruins ended Toledo’s season with a 3-2 victory in the Southwest 1A District pigtail playoff game on Saturday.
White Salmon plated single runs in the first and second innings, but Toledo tied the game 2-2 in the third inning on an RBI single from Alex Kleemeyer and a passed ball.
Trevor Jones had two of Toledo’s four hits. Chad Taylor scattered five hits and absorbed the complete-game loss.
Tigers rout Catlin Gabel
CLATSKANIE — Clatskanie hit five home runs while steamrolling Catlin Gabel 32-5 and 16-1 in a pair of mercy-rule victories here Monday in a Lewis and Clark 3A League baseball doubleheader.
Kirby Wemmer hit home runs in each game, and Brad White hit a grand slam in his only at-bat — a pinch-hit appearance — in Game 2.
Both games ended after five innings.
The Tigers (12-1 league) host Rainier in a doubleheader Tuesday that will likely determine the league champion. Rainier handed Clatskanie its only league loss earlier in the season.
In Game 1 against Catlin Gabel, Wemmer (2-for-3, five runs scored) and Jesse Oblack (2-for-2, four RBIs, four runs scored) each belted three-run homers.
Trevor Marioni was 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and five runs scored, and Jaron Cruz and Eli Pesio each scored four runs.
Pesio pitched the win.
In the second game, Wemmer (2-for-2, three RBIs), White and K.C. Taylor (2-for-2, four runs scored) each hit home runs, and Logan Gresset struck out nine in four shutout innings to earn the win.
TRACK
Sutfin leads Tigers to win
PORTLAND — Clatskanie’s Chad Sutfin won both distance events to lift Clatskanie to the boys’ team title at the Lewis and Clark League Track Championships held at Catlin Gabel on Saturday.
Clatskanie beat Rainier 148-109 to win the boys’ crown. Rainier finished fourth in the girls’ meet with 85 points. No additional team results were available.
Sutfin won the 1500 (4:24.96) and 3000 (9:28.03). Austin Carmack claimed the 800 (2:04.99), and Clatskanie’s 400 (45.15) and 1600 (3:37.11) relay teams were victorious. Finishing second were Jesse Marvin (long jump, 19-2) and Jon Nolan (discus, 118-4).
Rainier’s Aaron Salisbury won the discus (120-1/2), Alex Field claimed the javelin (174-2) and Nathan Stecker was second in the pole vault at 11-feet.
In the girls’ meet, Rainier’s Kayla Nagunst won the 400 (59.66) and 800 (2:23.31), and Tianna Gibson was second in the shot put at 31-1/4.
Clatskanie’s Kaylee Taylor won the javelin at 118-5.
Rainier and Clatskanie will compete in the Oregon Class 3A State Championships at Western Oregon University in Monmouth on Friday and Saturday.
GOLF
Rainier in fifth at district
CORNELIUS, Ore. — Rainier finished Day 1 of the District I 3A golf tournament at Forest Hills Golf Course here Monday in fifth place.
The Columbians had 380 strokes as a team, 59 behind leader Catlin Gabel. The top two teams advance to state. The top three individual scorers who are not on the top two teams also advance to state.
Rainier’s Josh Hull shot a 90, leaving him four shots off the pace of the third-place golfer. Dylan Samples had a 94, Josh Ammons a 96 and Ryan Anderson 100 for the Columbians.
Jills wear league crown
VANCOUVER — R.A. Long wrapped up its second straight Greater St. Helens 2A League girls golf title by beating Washougal 243-283 at Orchard Hills on Monday.
Rachel Zdilar carded a 44 to earn medalist honors for the Lumberjills (9-1). Kamri Tapani added a 45, Hannah Bennett-Swanson a 47, Makenzi Ellis a 52 and Amber Byrum a 55 for RAL.
The Jills open the Southwest 2A District tournament next Monday at Capital City Golf Course in Tumwater.
Mules’ Olsen nabs medal
CATHLAMET — Wahkiakum’s Cody Olsen fired a 42 to claim medalist honors as the Mules easily claimed a four-team match at Skyline Golf Course on Monday.
Wahkiakum had a nine-hole total of 179, followed by South Bend with 217. Raymond and Willapa Valley were incomplete.
Andrew Wieler added a 43 for the Mules, followed by Cole Claussen (45) and Ryan Helms (49).
Wahkiakum meets Three Rivers Christian at Three River Golf Course on Tuesday, and competes in the district tournament next Monday at Ocean Shores.
GIRLS TENNIS
Uhlenkott, Dowell triumph
CASTLE ROCK — Ainsley Uhlenkott and Carlee Dowell dominated singles play for Castle Rock as the Rockets tied Northwest Christian 2-2 in a nonleague tennis match on Monday.
Uhlenkott won 6-1, 6-1 and Dowell prevailed 6-2, 6-2. NWC won the only two doubles matches contested.

Softball
Castle Rock 9, Rochester 2 — Jennifer Clement twirled a three-hitter for the victory. Bekka Grendahl had two hits, Laken Ehrhorn had a hit and knocked in two runs, and Brittany Balderree added an RBI double.
Montesano 8, Castle Rock 4 — CR’s Kaeley Fowler swatted an RBI double, Breanne Krone added a hit and an RBI, and Jasmine Mercer and Jennifer Clement played well defensively.
Kelso 31, Evergreen 1 (5 innings) — Emily Tran was 3-for-3, and Hanna Baron, Ashley Junnikkala and Shay Workman had two hits apiece. Brittany Lee and Mykie Baron combined to pitch the win.
Mark Morris 15, Washougal 1 — Amanda Duncan (winning pitcher), Kelee Lambert (2-for-3), Makenzie Jones (3-for-3, two doubles), Ayla Jones (2-for-3) and Lindsay Duncan (2-for-3) led MM.
Golf
R.A. Long 229, Washougal 257 — RAL’s Katie Sarysz earned medalist honors with a 52.
Tennis
Castle Rock 2, Montesano 2 — CR’s Erin Skeie won her first singles match 6-3, and Merjen Akgayeva claimed second singles 6-0.
