Lower Columbia College took top-ranked Tacoma to a fifth game, but too many service errors were the Lady Devils’ undoing in a 25-14, 25-15, 24-26, 22-25, 15-9 setback in NWAACC Western Division volleyball at Myklebust Gym on Friday.
LCC (18-21, 4-6 league) remains a half-game behind Clark (5-6 league) for the division’s fourth berth into the NWAACC Volleyball Championships. The Lady Devils visit winless Centralia on Monday and travel to Highline (8-3 league) on Wednesday. Clark closes out its season at Pierce (7-4 league), also on Wednesday.
“Tacoma is a strong team that’s very efficient in its attack,” LCC coach Marcy Gilchrist said. “We had more kills than they did (54-44), but we also had more errors (40-23). We had a 6-2 lead in the last game, but numerous errors put them back in the game.”
Theresa Mott, Cassie Koering and Taofi Sanft tallied 11 kills apiece, with Koering adding two block assists and Lavinia “Lala” Latu adding two stuff blocks.”
Latu dished 37 assists and made 17 digs, Tarin Bond had 21 digs, Lacey Flatz served four aces and Keisa Tsuda was solid defensively.
