Looks like the Seattle Seahawks might not start their fourth-string tackle after all.

The Seahawks announced Tuesday that they placed third-string tackle Brandon Frye on the season-ending injured-reserve list with a neck injury.

And with the available spot on the 53-man roster, the team signed veteran offensive tackle Damion McIntosh.

Terms of the deal were not undisclosed, but bringing McIntosh into the fold adds much-needed depth up front, with only six healthy offensive linemen available for Sunday’s game against Arizona. McIntosh visited Seattle about a month ago, along with making a trip to New Orleans. And with Sean Locklear (ankle) and Walter Jones (knee) unavailable until after the Seattle bye week for the Nov. 1 game at Dallas along with the uncertainty of whether Jones will return this season at all the Seahawks, down to fourth-string tackle Kyle Williams, had to make a move.

McIntosh, 32, has experience playing left tackle, starting the last two seasons with Kansas City before being released in an unexpected move just before the regular season as the Chiefs cut to 53 players.

The 10-year veteran has started 111 career games, 93 of them at left tackle, 16 contests at right tackle and two games at right guard. The Kansas State product was drafted by San Diego in the third round of the 2000 draft and played his first four NFL seasons with the Chargers, before moving on to Miami for three seasons and spending the last two in Kansas City.

McIntosh, at 6-foot-4, 328 pounds, started every game last season at right tackle for the Chiefs. He’s also familiar with Seattle offensive line coach Mike Solari, having played for when Solari when he was offensive coordinator in KC in 2007.

“It’s just a tough situation up front right now,” Seattle coach Jim Mora said.

“I think Mike Solari is doing a really good job. I think that (offensive coordinator) Greg Knapp is doing a nice job of planning around the problem that we have. And I think the players when they step in and play are doing all they can do, and they’re fighting tooth and nail.”

Mora said the team’s punt-return game, ranked 26th overall in the NFL, needs some work and will be a point of emphasis this week. Nate Burleson and Justin Forsett combined for a total of 7 yards on six returns, including two fair catches, Sunday against Jacksonville. “Right now, we’re just a little bit off in that,” Mora said. “And that’s something we’re going to focus on heavy this week, just trying to become more effective in that area.” …

Running back Edgerrin James rushed for a team-high 46 yards on 16 carries against Jacksonville. James now has 12,226 yards, and is 18 yards away from passing Marcus Allen (12,243) and vaulting into the top 10 on the all-time career rushing list. …

The Seahawks have their bye week after facing Arizona on Sunday. Currently, Seattle is one of three teams with the league’s top record in games played heading into a bye week, with a 16-4 mark in those games, tying Dallas and the N.Y. Giants for the top spot.
