DES MOINES, Wash. — Poor hitting by the Lower Columbia College offense was the Lady Devils’ downfall as they dropped a 25-11, 25-22, 25-14 decision to Highline Thunderbirds in NWAACC Western Division volleyball Wednesday.
The loss left LCC (19-22, 5-7 league) tied with Clark (17-18, 5-7 league) for fourth place in the division. the Lady Devils travel to Clark for a division tiebreaker at 7 tonight, with the winner advancing to the NWAACC Volleyball Championships during Nov. 19-21 at Mount Hood College in Gresham.
“We obviously didn’t show up for the match,” LCC coach Marcy Gilchrist said. “Our hitting was extremely inefficient.”
LCC hit minus-.018 for the match, with 24 kills and 26 errors in 109 attempts. By comparison, Highline had 34 kills and 16 errors in 101 attempts for a hitting efficiency of .178. The Lady Devils also contiinued to struggle with their serving, collecting two aces and six errors.
Taofi Sanft led LCC with 10 kills, with Sara Jespersen adding four. Lavinia Latu had 10 assists and Jessica Warthen six, and Tarin Bond made 11 digs.
