Kelso’s Kelsie Davis capped her junior track season at Vanguard University by claiming All-American honors at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic (NAIA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Davis, who competed in the long jump, went into the meet seeded ninth among 17 entries after clearing a school-record 5-foot-6 in a meet on April 10. She easily completed her first jump of the competition at 5-3, and cleared 5-5 on her second jump of the second round.

After missing at 5-7 along with five other jumpers remaining in the competition, Davis was awarded sixth place and the final All-American spot based on making the opening jump on her first attempt.

Davis, a co-captain at Vanguard, became the school’s first female All-American high jumper, and received Most Improved honors from her team.

• Mark Morris High graduate Jennifer Hamilton had a successful collegiate debut in her freshman season with the Washington State University track team.

Hamilton, a javelin thrower, qualified for the NCAA Division I West Regional Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene with a throw of 157-feet at a dual meet against Washington earlier in the season.

At regionals, Hamilton threw 151-8 to finish seventh. She was eight feet short of the last qualifying spot for the NCAA Division I Championships. Despite not making it to nationals, Hamilton’s 157-foot throw ranks her sixth on WSU’s all-time javelin list.

• Krystal Deyo of Castle Rock, a junior with the Eastern Washington University track team, placed 15th in the long jump at 18-3 1/4 at the NCAA Division I West Regional Championships.

Earlier in the season, Deyo wrote her name into the EWU record book with a leap of 19-8 1/4 at the 38th annual Pelluer Invitational held in Cheney. The distance automatically qualified her for the Big Sky Conference Championships and the NCAA West Regionals.

Deyo placed ninth at the Big Sky Conference Championships with a leap of 18-3.

• Ex-Lower Columbia College relief pitcher Chris Williamson, now a junior at Bellevue University in Nebraska, was named a first-team reliever in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Williamson, who graduated from La Center High School, had a 7-2 record with four saves, a 3.31 earned run average and 57 strikeouts in 49 innings. He finished second in the conference in saves and tied for seventh in victories.

• A pair of ex-LCC baseball players earned all-Pacific West Conference accolades while playing at Hawaii Pacific University.

Junior second baseman Sean Winston was named to the first team after hitting .280 with 20 runs batted in and nine stolen bases in 11 attempts. Jonah Hobson, a senior outfielder who graduated from R.A. Long High School, earned second-team honors after hitting .395 with a home run, 36 RBIs and a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen bases.

• Cort Carpenter, a Kelso High and LCC graduate, received all-West Coast Conference honorable mention as a senior first baseman at the University of Portland. Carpenter hit .327 and was second on the Pilots with eight home runs and 37 RBIs.

Five Pilots received all-WCC honors, the most the team has received since joining the conference for baseball in 1996.

• Another former LCC pitcher, Ben Rosen, received honorable mention from the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Rosen, a junior at the College of Idaho, was 4-3 with a 2.87 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings.

• Ex-Mark Morris High and LCC standout Brittany Warren closed out her collegiate softball career with an honorable mention selection from the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

Warren, a senior outfielder at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, hit .302 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBIs.
