Oct. 10 Letters to the Editor
Coverage is one-sided
What will it take for the one-sided, Longview-favored Daily News to put Kelso football on the front page? Kelso was the only prep who played on Oct. 1, and they won in a big way, yet you buried it in the back of the section. Instead, the front page was all about the upcoming Longview games on Oct. 2 and the volleyball game Mark Morris had on Oct. 1.
You couldn’t even be bothered to put the scores on the top section. It’s a shame the way your paper ignores all other areas, especially Kelso, except Longview. You’re prejudice is much like a jealous lover or a spoiled child jealous of a sibling who got a new birthday toy and they didn’t. Get it together and start reporting fairly. I know, a challenge for you, but try it.

Look at the facts
It is time we stopped looking at this issue using only emotion and looked at the facts. In today’s environment we have “death squads”; they are called insurance companies. They can deny coverage and if the individual does not have the money to pay for the procedure they are left on their own.
We do not have the facts on the table regarding the public option. The president’s plan calls for the creation of a new insurance exchange, where individuals and small businesses a can compare plans and buy the one that works best for them. President Obama believes that one of the options available in the insurance exchange should be a public insurance option. He believes a public option is a way to create more competition and ensure every American has an affordable choice.
There is no perfect plan, but we need to try to get as close as we can. Absolutely the American people need to understand the cost of this program. We need to understand how we will create savings to offset the costs.
We need to address medical malpractice. If money is awarded to a person beyond the all future medical costs, lost wages and lost opportunity costs then any additional penalties should go to agencies and organizations that help people such as food banks, relief organizations, etc. If a doctor or hospital needs additional penalties then let’s use the money to help people.
Let’s provide all people appropriate medical care so that we can all be proud to say we are Americans.

Let’s have a choice
If you don’t like changing your clocks twice a year, write to your senators, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, and Congressman Brian Baird and ask them to change the law.
Let’s live by sun time and let those who want to, adjust their clocks to fit their needs.

Just don’t spend
The two major telecommunication companies keep offering me their “bundle and save” packages. After the introductory period, I would be paying an additional $100 a month.
I’ve decided to save by not spending the money. This must be that “new math” my parents were talking about.

Embarrassing errors
I find it utterly ironic that in an article about school success, or lack of success, there were so many grammatical and typographical errors. How embarrassing.
I would suggest that instead of parents requesting transfers to other schools, they keep their children from reading The Daily News. I am sure there are many teachers at St. Helens who would be happy to proof read articles for you before going to print.
This, Mr. Editor, would improve your reading score immensely.
