The Longview Housing Authority is collecting food and camping equipment for homeless veterans in Cowlitz County.

The housing authority is partnering with the Cowlitz Valley VFW to provide food, winter coats, sleeping bags, tarps and small tents to homeless vets. Also needed are jars of peanut butter, instant oatmeal boxes, canned soups, chili, applesauce, jam, crackers, canned fruits and canned tuna.

The public can donate these items or write out checks toward the effort by contacting the housing authority at 1207 Commerce Ave., Longview, or calling 423-0140.
