Detectives found a dead body in a home that burned down Friday morning east of Onalaska, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Friday afternoon.

The person has not been identified.

Steve McCulloh, the son of the property’s owner, said the home was rented out to Chris Sandridge. Detectives said they have been trying to contact Sandridge since the fire started at about 5:30 a.m., so far without success.

McCulloh identified two vehicles in the driveway as Sandridge’s, though no first responders could confirm if Sandridge was in the home at the time of the blaze.

The case is still under investigation.
