SALEM, Ore. — State of Oregon workers have ratified a contract that requires them to take 10 to 14 unpaid furlough days during the next two years.
About 88 percent of the workers represented by the Service Employees International Union Local 503 voted to approve the contract, union officials said Friday. The union represents about 18,500 state employees.
The contract also delays planned step-increases until next September. It has no cost-of-living increases but continues to cover all health insurance premiums.
The contract is expected to save the state about $71.5 million. It is retroactive to Sept. 1 and runs through June 30, 2011.
