The special three-day filing period for candidates interested in vacant seats on the Kelso and Woodland City Councils ends at 5 p.m. Thursday (July 2).
So far, only Rick Von Rock has filed for Kelso council position No. 6, which Councilman Alan Slater vacated June 30. The Kelso City Council appointed Von Rock, a former Longview Fibre labor union leader, on June 8. Von Rock still must run for election in November to allow other candidates a shot at finishing the last two years of Slater’s four-year term.
Woodland Council Position No. 2 is vacant, and the one person who filed for the seat in June, Jeffrey Sullivan, has since withdrawn. As of Wednesday evening, three people had filed for the position: Al Ryder, Al Swindell and Darwin Rounds.
Interested candidates must file for the seats by 5 p.m. Thursday at the Cowlitz County Auditor’s Office, 207 N. Fourth Ave., Kelso.
