ROSEBURG, Ore. — The manager of the Roseburg Valley Mall is writing a letter of apology to a woman who was told to cover up while trying to breast-feed her baby despite a state law allowing it in public.

Mall manager Brittney Cannon said Wednesday the mall employee who approached Vicky LaVelle on Tuesday was responding to a complaint from an older woman.

The 30-year-old LaVelle was shopping when her infant son began to cry, so she sat down on a bench inside the mall to feed him.

LaVelle said she cried about the incident and felt embarrassed. The mall manager says her staff will be made aware of state law.
