SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon House has advanced a bill intended to stop voyeurs from videotaping minors for sexual gratification.
Rep. John Huffman of The Dalles introduced House Bill 2477 after the Oregon Court of Appeals ruled last year that a law banning the secret videotaping of people only applied to adults. That case arose from an incident in Huffman’s district, where a man installed spy cameras in women’s restrooms and a doctor’s office.
The bill passed Monday removes the existing requirement that victims be “post-pubescent” for the offender to be prosecuted for violating personal privacy.
The bill, which still needs Senate approval, also increases the penalties for those convicted.
