Displaced workers who may qualify for training — possibly as they continue to collect unemployment benefits — are urged to attend a pair of question and answer sessions scheduled for Thursday at Centralia College.
Space is limited, so those interested need to reserve a place as soon as possible by calling Centralia College at 736-9391, ext. 385 or 770.
The new program means unemployed workers may be eligible for state-paid job-readiness or new-career training, according to a news release from the college.
The Washington Employment Security Department has already contacted by letter more than 1,825 displaced Lewis County workers who might be eligible.
Don Frey, a spokesperson for the college, said the information sessions were set up to avoid having to answer perhaps more than 1,000 inquiries, one at a time.
Representatives from the college and employment security will be on hand to describe the program and assist folks in getting enrolled.
The two programs are:
Morning — 10 a.m. until noon in room 109 of the college’s new Science Center at the corner of Washington Avenue and Walnut Street. Attendees will hear about the program and be able to ask questions.
Afternoon — 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. in Washington Hall. Representatives will go over the financial aid aspects, and determine funding eligibility for jobless workers that plan to enter the program. Centralia College Financial Aid staff will be on hand to help prospective students secure tuition and retraining benefits.
