OLYMPIA — The Washington state Department of Transportation says it has reopened State Route 20, the North Cascades Highway, after a closure due to avalanche concerns.
The highway was closed last Saturday after a powerful fall storm brought heavy snow to the Cascade Mountains and reopened early Tuesday afternoon. State Route 20 was one of three mountain roads that closed last weekend. State Route 410 at Chinook Pass and State Route 123 at Cayuse Pass both have closed for the season.
The North Cascades Highway typically closes during the winter because of heavy snow.
