MOSIER, Ore. — The mayor of the Columbia Gorge town of Mosier says most residents have left to avoid a threatening wildfire, but she's feeling better about the chances of keeping flames outside the city limits.
On Saturday, firefighters began a second day of trying to keep the 1,000-acre Microwave fire in the ridges west of the town of about 480 people.
The fire grew overnight and had edged toward the town, which is without power.
But Mayor Andrea Rogers said the fire was pushed back and things looked better Saturday morning with cooler temperatures and higher humidity expected to assist fire crews.
Residents were advised to leave Friday as flames advanced. The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined.
