A final free cardboard giveaway for the Great Cardboard Boat Regatta® will take place Wednesday (June 3) at 5 p.m. in The Daily News’ back parking lot.
Longview Fibre, which is sponsoring the regatta with The Daily News, specially produced the 6-foot by 10-foot sheets of corrugated board Tuesday, and regatta participants were advised to reserve in advance the number of sheets they wanted.
After the reserved cardboard is taken, any cardboard left over will be up for grabs for regatta participants who still need it. Copies of the regatta rules also will be available.
The regatta will be held at Lake Sacajawea on July 4 during the Go 4th Festival. The point of the regatta is to build a full-sized boat entirely of cardboard that can travel a 200-yard course. Crews may consist of one to eight people. Registration is free.
So far, about 100 people have pre-registered for the race. Everyone also must formally register their boats the day of the event.
