WENATCHEE, Wash. — A woman who allowed her two children to get drunk while camping at Lake Wenatchee State Park has been sentenced to seven days in jail.
At her sentencing in Chelan county District Court, 35-year-old Sitona P. Hellerud, also was ordered not to drink during two years of probation and to comply with recommendations of Child Protective Services. Hellerud pleaded guilty last month to one count of reckless endangerment in return for prosecutors dropping a second count.
She was arrested Aug. 26 after people told authorities her children were drunk. The News Tribune of Tacoma reports both 14-year-olds were treated for alcohol poisoning at Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth. One had a blood alcohol level of .25 and the other of .13.
