One Chehalis kitten should consider itself Lucky.

And now it can, given the name after an Onalaska couple found it riding underneath their car for at least 50 miles Saturday.

Janet Lucas and her husband first found the little black kitten lying in the road while hopping garage sales Saturday morning in Chehalis.

Lucas said she thought the little one was dead, but it staggered away as she approached it.

“When I went to catch it, it ran under my car,” she said this morning. “We later returned to the car and checked very carefully underneath. No kitten in sight.”

The two went on with their business, hitting a dozen or more garage sales throughout Centralia, Chehalis and U.S. Highway 12, covering more than 50 miles, she said.

While unloading her buys, Lucas heard a faint “mew” from under the car. She bent down to look and sure enough, there was the little black kitten, hungry and tired. It had been riding there all day.

“It was absolutely the most amazing thing I’ve seen,” she said. “It was probably up on top of the spare tire.”

Today, the kitten is doing great, and Lucas decided its name should be Lucky. Since the couple has two outdoor cats already, she wants to find Lucky a new home.

To adopt Lucky, contact Janet Lucas by e-mail at jslucas262@msn.com. She said Lucky is cute, healthy and probably about six weeks old.
