Weyerhaeuser Co. will lay off 19 workers at its Longview mill this week because of poor market conditions, the company announced Wednesday.
The cuts are about 8 percent of the total workforce, bringing total employment to 214, said Anthony Chavez, a company spokesman.
Weyerhaeuser also laid off 109 employees at its mills in Raymond and Warrenton, Ore., because of poor market conditions, Chavez said.
Weyerhaeuser is eliminating its dry kiln operation in Longview, where lumber is dried before heading out to market, said Mike Heuer, president of the Woodworkers/International Association of Machinists local 536, which represents the mill employees.
The layoffs will take effect next week, and the union plans to hold meetings next week to help the affected employees with unemployment and job retraining, Heuer said.
