BAKER CITY, Ore. — Two wolves blamed for repeatedly killing livestock in Eastern Oregon have been shot.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife authorized a federal agency to destroy the two wolves after the loss of 29 domestic animals in five separate attacks on ranches in the Keating Valley area of Baker County.

The first attack occurred April 9 and the last was August 27 on the same ranch. One of the five attacks occurred on an adjacent ranch.

State officials said they confirmed that the same two wolves were involved in all of the livestock losses.

The Oregon wildlife agency chased the wolves out of the area several times with an airplane or helicopter and also used noisemakers to discourage them.

But officials said they cannot allow chronic losses to livestock operations.
