VANCOUVER, Wash.  — A woman crossing the street while talking on a cellular telephone has been injured by a Washington State Patrol trooper.

Clark County sheriff's detective Ryan Taylor says the 21-year-old woman was reported conscious and alert early Sunday at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver.

Taylor says the woman was wearing dark clothing when she was struck about 10:50 p.m. Saturday by a State Patrol car north of Vancouver. The driver had been sent to assist another trooper.

Taylor says the trooper was driving within the posted speed limit, and a preliminary investigation indicates no wrongdoing by the trooper.
