The Mount St. Helens Hiking Club, www.mtsthelensclub.org, is planning the following hikes. Hikers must call the leader to learn the meeting place and departure time.
Saturday: Killen Creek south of Goat Rocks. The ‘M’ rated hike is 8-10 miles with a 2,500-foot elevation gain, and hikers will cross the Pacific Coast Trail en route to the High Camp Trail on the flanks of Mount Adams. Monday: Pinnacle Peak Trail near Mount Rainier. The ‘M’ rated hike is 2.6 miles round-trip with a 1,200 elevation gain, and offers rear views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, mountain goats and wild flowers. Hiking sticks are recommended, and hikers are encouraged to bring their Golden Age pass. Phone hike leaders for departure location and time. Aug. 8: Mitchell Peak Trail in the cougar area. The ‘S/M’ rated hike is 12 miles with a slight elevation change. Starting trailhead is above North Souxion Creek. A car shuttle is possible. Hike ratings: E for easy, M for moderate, S for strenuous.
