A couple of famous names from the psychedelic music era will be tripping into Longview this week.
The Leon Hendrix Mysterience, which features Jimi Hendrix’ brother, will headline a show starting at 6 p.m. Friday at The Regent, 3353 Washington Way. Tickets cost $18 in advance at the Regent or $20 at the door.
The show is dubbed the Jimi Hendrix Memorial Concert, falling on the 39th anniversary of Jimi’s death.
In an interview with The Daily News last year, Leon Hendrix said he started playing guitar about 10 years ago. Leon, who is about 60, typically does some of Jimi’s big hits like “Hey Joe” and “All Along the Watchtower,” along with blues/rock originals.
Also playing will be the Goldie McJohn and Friendz tribute to Steppenwolf. McJohn was Steppenwolf’s original keyboards player from 1967 to 1974. McJohn also played with Humble Pie and Janis Joplin — and worked for about 10 years doing maintenance at a Seattle golf course.
The lineup Friday also includes local groups the Green Mountain Metal Band, Bones, Swamp Surfer and Contempt. Bones and Swamp Surfer took top places during an Aug. 22 battle of the bands with about 25 entries.
