The Lower Columbia College Symphonic Band will celebrate a double anniversary — the band’s 30th and the college’s 75th — with a free concert next week.

The group founded by Dr. Gary Nyberg 30 years ago and still directed by him will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Rose Center Wollenberg Auditorium.

Guest soloist Dr. Mark Babbitt, associate professor of trombone at Central Washington University, will perform “T-Bone Concerto” by Johan de Meij, a showcase for both the instrument and the musician.

Babbitt has degrees in performance from the Eastman School of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Washington.

He has performed as guest principal trombone with the Seattle Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Honolulu Symphony and the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra.

His recent movie recording projects include “Valkyrie” and “The Incredible Hulk,” and on Trey Anastasio’s recent album “Time Turns Elastic.”

Nyberg has chosen a program spanning more than 100 years: “Lauds and Tropes: In Praise” by W. Francis McBeth; “Light Cavalry Overture” by Franz von Suppe; “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed; “Fanfare for Tomorrow: From Threads of Our Past, the Fabric of Our Future” by Robert W. Smith; “American Suite” by Antonin Dvorak; and “US Field Artillery March” by John Philip Sousa.

The public is encouraged to arrive early to enjoy free refreshments and tour LCC’s special 75th anniversary exhibit, “A Legacy of Learning,” in the adjacent LCC Art Gallery.

The Rose Center for the Arts is at the intersection of 15th Avenue and Washington Way in Longview
