Weyerhaeuser Co. will shut down its Longview lumber mill for four weeks in November and December because of slow market conditions, the company announced Wednesday.
The company is curtailing the mill Nov. 16 through the Thanksgiving holiday and Dec. 21 through Jan. 3.
Weyerhaeuser often shuts down for a week or two during the holidays to cut inventory when lumber demand is low, company spokesman Anthony Chavez said Thursday.
“We take down time when we need to match supply better with demand,” he said.
The company last curtailed the Longview mill for three weeks around Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
The Longview mill’s 215 employees can file for unemployment and are encouraged to take vacation time during closure, Chavez said.
The company also announced this week nine weeks of total down time at its Raymond mill and Oregon mills in Cottage Grove, Santiam and Warrenton.
