In an effort to make Longview a little greener, Longview city employees are participating in two recycling drives to benefit children and homeless animals — and they’re asking for the public’s help.
Between now and March 31, city workers are collecting plastic grocery bags for Olympic and St. Helen’s elementary schools to raise money for playground equipment, according to a city press release.
In addition, they will collect newspapers, clean but old bedding (no sheets), bedspreads and towels for the Humane Society of Cowlitz County. The humane society can use anything that will help keep the animals off the cold concrete kennel floors.
Anyone who wants to contribute to these causes may drop off their bags or bedding from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the lobby of Longview City Hall, 1525 Broadway. Containers for the items are clearly marked.
This month’s “Go Green” event helps spotlight the City Council’s goal to “encourage the reduction of the carbon footprint in the community.” Employees celebrated the kickoff last Friday by wearing green to work.
