A 12-year-old Kelso boy accidentally discharged his father’s shotgun shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, perforating his house but not hurting anyone.
Kelso police were dispatched to the call as an “interrupted burglary” in the 100 block of Lowrane Drive. Officer Bebe McFall said when officers arrived, the boy told them he had been home alone when he saw someone in the house and fired the shotgun through the door.
“The evidence did not match up with what he was saying,” McFall said, and after 45 minutes the embarrassed boy admitted playing with the gun in his parents’ bedroom.
The boy will not be charged, she said.
“It’s basically a learning lesson for him,” she said, adding that firearms should always be locked away out of the reach of children.
