Longview School District’s risk management insurance policy might help the district recover $400,000 underpayment into its employee health insurance pool last year.

The option will be discussed at a Longview School Board meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Longview Schools spokeswoman Sandy Catt said the administrative staff needs board approval before investigating whether the district’s problem is covered by its risk management policy.

Other options — including charging employees for the extra benefits they received, or paying the $400,000 from its general fund — remains on the table, Catt said.

The underpayment occurred because the district overestimated how many employees were paying into the pool last school year, resulting in lower collections than required to fund the insurance pool. The district has since adjusted payroll deductions for insurance to collect the proper amount.

The Longview School Board meets at district headquarters, 2715 Lilac Street.
