On Thursday night (Aug. 6) the Longview City Council will reconsider a resolution for a citizens’ advisory vote about whether the cities of Longview and Kelso should explore merging into one city.
This is the only item on the agenda for the 6 p.m. special meeting, which is at Longview City Hall.
At the council’s July 23 meeting, the council voted 3-2 against holding the advisory vote. However, two council members who supported the poll were absent. If they had been present, the resolution would have passed and the advisory vote measure would have been put on November’s ballot. The Kelso City Council had already approved the resolution.
If voters were to approve the ballot measure, a formal study would be conducted within six months to lay out the details for a city merger. Then citizens, armed with all the details, would be asked to vote in November 2010 whether they wanted to merge Longview and Kelso.
