PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) — A teenager trying to stay aloft with a skydiving parachute while being towed behind a truck has died after falling 300 feet, authorities said.

Christopher Frazer, 17, of Tacoma, died Sunday night after being flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of multiple broken bones, cuts and bruises, investigators in the King County medical examiner's office said.

Kitsap County Fire District 7 personnel said the teenager was unconscious when they arrived shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Frazer and his father were among a group of sky divers who use a 30-acre cleared and terraced area west of Bremerton National Airport as a drop zone, said employees of the Port of Bremerton and of Blue Skies Skydiving Adventures.

Frazer's father was reportedly present when the parasailing accident occurred as the teenager was being towed through the drop zone. Witnesses said his parachute was designed for skydiving rather than parasailing.

Blue Skies president Joe Williams said he did not witness the accident but told The Sun of Bremerton that what Frazer was doing had "nothing to do with skydiving, and I don't know why it was going on."

A Kitsap County sheriff's detective has been assigned to investigate the accident.
