Corrugated cardboard is very popular. If you wanted proof of that all you had to do was watch people come and go at The Daily News on Thursday and Friday.
Friday, the second day for picking up cardboard for boat-builders planning to participate in the July 4 Great Cardboard Boat Regatta®, was a little less hectic than Thursday. Meaning, starting at 3 p.m. there was an orderly and steady run on six pallets of corrugated cardboard provided by Longview Fibre.
As of 5:30, there were only a few lonely unclaimed sheets.
Almost 70 people have pre-registered to participate in the regatta.
A final cardboard distribution has been scheduled for June 3. The regatta, which will be held at lake Sacajawea, is being sponsored by The Daily News and Longview Fibre. It is the only officially sanctioned cardboard regatta on the West Coast.
On Thursday, two pallets of cardboard were scooped up in 20 minutes.
Fibre did a special overnight run of cardboard to make sure there would be enough for all the people planning to build boats.
