The Pacific County Prosecutor’s Office filed a charge of first-degree murder against Brian Brush, the man suspected of killing a Long Beach woman last week.

Brush, 47, of Roseburg, faces 20 years to life in prison if he is convicted in the murder of Lisa G. Bonney, 45, a lifelong Long Beach resident.

Police said Brush shot Bonney four times with a shotgun Friday afternoon on a busy thoroughfare near downtown Long Beach. The shooting happened during a popular annual car rally that draws thousands of people to the Long Beach Peninsula.

(Previous reports put the number of shots fired at three.)

Several people were standing nearby as Brush opened fire, and two Long Beach police officers rushed to apprehend Brush after witnessing the shooting from about 150 yards away, authorities said.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor David Bustamante said his office is pursuing several aggravating factors that could put Brush in prison for life.

Prosecutors say Brush had dated Bonney, making the shooting an act of domestic violence. They also said he showed “deliberate cruelty.”

Brush could also be sentenced to life because he allegedly shot Bonney more than once, Bustamante said.

Brush is expected to be arraigned Friday.
