The 49-year old Castle Rock area man struck by a tree Thursday afternoon has died.
The Clark County Medical Examiner’s office reported that Kevin Greear died of blunt force head trauma, and his death has been ruled accidental, said Tony Lopez, of the examiner’s office.
The accident took place at about 2 p.m. at a private residence at 175 Stoneyridge Road, which is north of Lexington off Hazel Dell Road.
According to a Cowlitz County Sheriff’s report, Greear was cutting down one of two dead trees that were cabled together. As the tree started to fall, Greear tried to run clear. But he slipped in the mud and the cable, still tethered to the other tree, caused the falling tree to swing around and strike him, according to the report.
He was unconscious when a deputy and an aid crew arrived.
Greear was taken to Riverside Park in Lexington, where he was picked up by Life-Flight helicopter and taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. He was pronounced dead Thursday evening in the hospital’s emergency room, Lopez said.
