As an undergraduate pre-med student in Nevada, Lindsay Roberson was at a crossroads about her future career.

Should she continue along to medical school and become a traditional doctor? Or should she try something edgier by focusing on noninvasive therapy and herbal remedies?

Roberson chose the latter, and this spring graduated from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Arizona. Last week, she launched her practice at the Total Health Center, 1322 Vandercook Way in Longview.

“After being away from the Northwest and the green, I needed to come back,” the 1998 Castle Rock High School graduate said.

As a naturopathic physician, Roberson, 29, tries to summon the body’s natural defenses to combat afflictions such as diabetes, heart disease and even brain tumors.

“We like to treat the whole person, find the cause of the disease, and help that person combat the disease,” Roberson said.

Her methods also include nutrition counseling and hydrotherapy, the use of water to soothe pain. Roberson helps patients develop healthier lifestyles to ward off disease, and she acknowledges that being a naturopathic patient comes with more responsibilities.

Roberson will direct patients to other doctors if they need more traditional methods of care with drugs, she said. She is accepting patients from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Call 353-3822 for more information.
