Flu season: When should you seek medical attention?
Saturday, November 7, 2009 7:28 PM PST
By The Associated Press
Health officials in Oregon and Southwest Washington have developed a chart to help people decide when to seek medical attention for flu-like illnesses.
The chart urges people to get medical care when they need it while encouraging home care in most cases to prevent unnecessary visits to health care providers and emergency rooms. Most people with flu-like illness can recover safely at home.
The chart is available in English, Spanish and Russian at www.nwflunews.info/?p=931

" When you don't have health insurance and you know what emergency medical bills can be.........you just take care of it at home. What are the three signs you need an emergency room????? excessive, uncontrolled bleeding, unable or difficulty in breathing...I forget the third one. As for the flu...I have lots of fluids and a toilet (barf basin) at home. Not as pleasant as having someone else clean up but a lot cheaper.
p.s. please note: If someone in my family was in the danger group (very young, very old or chronic immunity issues) I would get them to the hospital. "
