School board to formally oppose I-1033

The Longview School Board on Monday will review and vote on a referendum to formally opposes the passage of Initiative 1033 on the fall ballot.
I-1033 is intended to cap the annual tax revenue growth. The board would be joining Kelso School Board and the city councils of Longview and Kelso in opposing the measure.
The board also is slated to approve the purchase of nearly $68,000 worth of new exercise equipment with a grant intended to promote physical activity in students. Amendments to the district’s anti-bullying policy to prohibit hazing is also scheduled for approval.
The 7:30 p.m. meeting will be held at the district office, 2715 Lilac Street in Longview.
Kelso School Board to approve donation for band uniforms
Kelso School Board is scheduled to approve a donation by Kelso Booster Club to purchase new marching band uniforms, for which Kelso officials pledged to pay $15,000.
The board also will review a request for the Kelso High School choir to attend a festival in California, review the district’s budget, and discuss student achievement. A recommendation from the Citizens for Kelso Schools committee will also be discussed.
Kelso School Board meets Monday at 7 p.m. Meetings are at the district office, 601 Crawford Street in Kelso.
