A pair of up-and-coming Seattle Mariners players — Jamie Burke and Tug Hulett — along with M’s broadcaster Rick Rizzs will headline the annual Lower Columbia College Athletics Scholarship Auction and Raffle Fundraiser dinner on Friday in the LCC Student Center.

The LCC Athletics fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners Caravan, which will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. the same day in Truman Myklebust Gym at the college.

Longview is the only Southwest Washington stop on the three-week, 22-city Mariners Caravan, which also includes visits to Yakima, the Tri-Cities, Olympia, Moses Lake, Spokane, Portland and Tacoma.

The Caravan is free to the public. All attendees will receive a complimentary 2009 M’s schedule poster, autographs, a chance to win prizes and an opportunity to have photos taken with the players and the Moose.

Prior to its appearance at LCC, the Caravan will visit Butler Acres Elementary for a D.R.E.A.M. Team assembly that is closed to the public. The assembly is a program that stresses importance in the principles of “drug-free, respect for yourself and others, education through reading, attitude and motivation to achieve your dreams,” according to a team press release.

The LCC Athletics fundraiser kicks off with a silent auction and social hour at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a live auction at 7. In addition to members of the Mariners Caravan at the dinner/auction, coaches and players from all of the LCC sports will be in attendance, along with some special guests.

Items up for grabs via live auction, silent auction and raffle include a Kentucky Derby weekend for two, including airfare and lodging; tickets to the Mariners vs. San Diego Padres games; tickets to Portland Trail Blazer games; a golf and baseball weekend at Oregon State University in Corvallis; weekend stays in cabins at Mount Hood and on the Long Beach Peninsula; a Longview Country Club golf outing; a personal clinic put on by the LCC baseball team; Mexican Fiesta dinners, wine baskets and golf clubs.

Also on the auction block are sports memorabilia items, including a signed bat from San Diego Padres first baseman Adrian Gonzalez; signed baseballs from San Diego pitchers Jake Peavy, Trevor Hoffman and Seattle pitcher Brandon Morrow; an autographed jersey from Padres pitcher Chris Young; a bat signed by former Seattle player Raul Ibanez; a signed photo of baseball Hall of Fame player Mickey Mantle; an official NBA jersey worn by Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors; and a Manny Ramirez game-used bat when he played for the Boston Red Sox.

Tickets for Sports Night are $30 each or $150 for a table of six. The cost includes food and raffle tickets. Additional raffle tickets will also be on sale.
