" Funny how people can go out shopping but cant make it to church and have to cancel services....sad.If I was in charge of a church, I would cancel for almost nothing.I dont care if there are only 2 people there, dont forsake corporate worship "

" Since the Pasor's job is to shepard his flock, I believe they are looking out for the safety of their congregation. They aren't canceling just for the sake of it but because they actually care about the people. I know New Horizons is on a steep hill. "

LongviewFam wrote on Dec 20, 2008 10:43 PM:

" justaperson, our services are also canceled, but not without much consideration. Services were canceled because we do not want the elderly and others nervous about driving to risk coming down the hills or even in town and potentially injuring themselves, their families or others. Surely you see the wisdom and concern in postponing them a week. Those who faithfully attend will be back next week and understand the decision made for safety's sake. "

" justaperson....How would you feel if your church didn't cancel services & one of the parishioners slid off the road or through an intersection & was badly injured or worse yet killed? The smart thing to do is cancel every last one of them. Freezing rain on top of the snow is a recipe for disaster. "

pangborn wrote on Dec 21, 2008 8:33 AM:

" Safety first.
If its too dangerous for Jesus to make it its too dangerous for you.
Guard the flock, even the zealot just a person. "

justareader wrote on Dec 21, 2008 11:59 AM:

" I'm not a religious person and won't pretend to be but, it seems thoughtful of the pastors of these churches to place the safety of their parishioners first.
God is supposed to be with you whereever you are, I don't think he'll be bothered if you worship from your own home instead of gathering together. "

WWJD wrote on Dec 21, 2008 12:14 PM:

" I didn't get out to finish my shopping, and can't get out to attend church. We can spend time reading our Bibles and praying, and I am thankful for our wood stove, and plenty of food and water. May you all have a very merry Christmas, remember "wise men still seek him!" "

Reality Check wrote on Dec 21, 2008 1:42 PM:

" You don't have to go to a church building to worship God and to remember the Lord Jesus Christ as he directed us to do. My wife and I invited our neighbor up to our house this morning and conducted our own service. The Lord jesus Christ was remembered, bread was broked, and God the Father given the worship He is due. "

justaperson wrote on Dec 21, 2008 2:19 PM:

" My church never cancels service.I understand that most wont be there and dont think it should be required to attend. I do oppose taking away that option for those who still wish to attend.Yes the regulars will be back next week, but what about that one who decided to attend a service and there isnt one and they never again go to find hope at a church "

justareader wrote on Dec 21, 2008 4:18 PM:

" justaperson - please understand that I mean no disrespect to you or your thoughts however, law enforcement and safety personel are asking people not to travel.....for their safety. They already have had reports of someone who may have strayed and have search & rescue out in this weather. If someone feels the urgent need to seek the lord on this one particular day only, I hope they choose to seek him internally rather than going out in this weather and finding a particular "house". I think it is important for the Pastors' of the churches to lead by example and stay away rather than guilting people into showing up (or attempting to) because he did. Announcing a closure shows love and caring under these circumstances. "

LongviewFam wrote on Dec 21, 2008 5:22 PM:

" justaperson, I understand your thoughts about a person seeking hope and not wanting them to miss out on the one time they may need it most. However, we need to tend to the entire congregation's safety. Hopefully, if that person were ready to hear the gospel today, he/she will be ready again next week and view the closure of services as general love and concern for all. That's how I see it! "

press wrote on Dec 22, 2008 6:50 AM:

" I remember back in the day when I was a young one and we had bad snow and freezing day's we went to school half day and the Supt. Grant Hendrickson would personally drive the streets himself before school doors were to open and if the road was not drivable then no school for that day.
If warming was going to melt it away then we started school later in the day.
(Late start).
Castle Rock School is a small district and the bus driver's have more hills to climb up and go down but they do not always cancel they're school as much as Longveiw and Kelso does with their schools.
I do not recall so many churches canceling services like how they do now.
I say better to be safe then sorry.
I am sad I am not at home in America enjoying this white holiday season!
Merry White Christmas Everyone! "

ottomatic wrote on Dec 22, 2008 8:41 PM:

" "schrutized"? Haven't seen that word in my bible. He was, however, critical of the church, calling them hypocrites. "

racingrocks wrote on Dec 22, 2008 9:10 PM:

" Hey critter- according to the bible, Christ regularly went to the temple/synogog(sp).As a matter of fact, He went there as a young boy and His parents didnt know and He said " you should have known I would be at the temple". Also the Bible states "let us not forsake the gathering together of the saints as is the habit of some".
ottomatic- He was never critical of the church, only of those who were making it more about legalism and less about worship. "

" Waste control is on their regular Christmas schedule. It is on-line. poochie-The plow spent their entire time on our street. They made a horrible mess of things. We were getting in and out just fine with a 4x4 but many neighbors had trouble with the huge walls at the end of their driveways. They would just get them taken care of and the plow would come back and cover them again. It would have been better to just let the street close. They opened it up enough to have stupid people who had no business being out out onto the streets. "
