Toledo’s Artem Wallace, a senior forward with the University of Washington men’s basketball team, was questioned about stitches under his right eye during a recent press conference in Seattle.
“Is that a Jon Brockman (UW teammate) battle scar?” the reporter inquired.
Wallace laughed.
“That is a Jon Brockman battle scar, yes,” he replied. “Just caught a good old-fashioned Jon Brockman elbow.”
“Jon is a physical player,” Wallace explained. “He’s got those elbows of his. We play a physical style of basketball and try to rebound hard. It just happens in practice. No hard feelings.”
Wallace is averaging 1.2 points and 1.7 rebounds coming off the bench for the Huskies.
• Mark Morris grad Dan Lingenfelder, a junior wing with the George Fox University men’s basketball team, is one of eight returning players on the Bruins’ roster.
“Dan is a fundamentally sound player who has given us a nice spark off the bench, both offensively and defensively,” George Fox coach Mark Sundquist said on the team’s Web site. “We will just look for more consistency from him.”
Lingenfelder has averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 15 minutes per game coming off the bench for the Bruins.
Another former MM player, Felix Freidt, exploded for 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Whitworth University in a recent 88-38 drubbing of the Cal-Tech Beavers in the CIT/Oxy Thanksgiving Classic in Los Angeles.
Freidt is averaging 6.2 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Pirates.

Polis and Wilson will square off for the final time on Feb. 5 when Northern Arizona visits Portland State.
