TACOMA, Wash. — A new middle school in Tacoma will be called First Creek, after a tributary on the Puyallup River where there was a tribal village.
The school board said it couldn’t consider the suggestion of naming the school after Barack Obama because he hasn’t been president yet.
The Tacoma News Tribune reports other names considered Thursday were civil rights leader Coretta Scott King and candy maker and former school board member Fred Haley.

What they were saying is that they don't consider Presidents until they have taken office. And Obama hasn't really done anything of note to date except get elected.
I think Haley would have been a great choice. Far to often local history is overlooked for celebrity. "
